Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 drops food coloring
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 0.5 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup rainbow sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat oven and prepare cake pans.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
2. Mix dry ingredients.
In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. Cream butter and sugar.
In a separate bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until fluffy, then add the eggs one at a time.
4. Combine mixtures.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until smooth. Add vanilla extract.
5. Divide and color batter.
Divide the batter into six bowls and add different food coloring to each to create a variety of colors.
6. Layer the colored batter.
Pour each colored batter into the prepared cake pans, layering the colors in the order you prefer.
7. Bake the cakes.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
8. Cool and prepare whipped cream.
Let the cakes cool completely. In a bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
9. Assemble the cake.
Layer the cooled cakes with the whipped cream in between and on top, creating a cloud-like effect, and top with rainbow sprinkles.
